The Netherlands are in the northwest of Europe, and the main capital is Amsterdam. It often called Holland, but this is not accurate because North Holland and South Holland are only 2 of the 12 provinces. The other 10 are Zeeland, Friesland, and Groningen which border the North Sea, and North Brabant, Limburg, Utrecht, Gelderland, Overijssel, Drenthe, and Flevoland. Dutch food is fairly mild, with a lot of dairy products and potatoes. Tulips and windmills aside, the Netherlands is famous for its artwork, especially the "Dutch Masters", such as Rembrandt van Rijn, Johannes Vermeer, 19th and 20th century Vincent van Gogh and Piet Mondriaan, and M. C. Escher the graphics artist.
Netherlands Geography40% of the Netherlands is actually below sea-level, making the country prone to flooding, and as a result is full of canals throughout that make it easier to travel throughout. The coastal regions have to be protected by artificial dikes and dunes. It is a very diverse and multicultural nation, with a flat landscape.
