German GeographyThe climate in Germany is mild and wet in summer, and very cold in winter. It is flat-lying towards the coastal areas of the North, but is backed by the Bavarian Alps in the south. There is also the Black Forest in the south. Germany comprises of 16 states: Baden-Wuerttemberg, Bavaria, Berlin, Brandenburg, Bremen, Hamburg, Hessen, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Lower Saxony, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Schleswig-Holstein, Thuringia; Bavaria, Saxony and Thuringia generally consider themselves free states.
