Amsterdam is home to many film festivals, including the International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam (IDFA- the largest documentary film festival in the world, and the Cinekid Festival for children and young people every October. Trains between Amsterdam and Ebbsfleet run around 17 times a week.

AttractionsCafé De Prins- with an outdoor terrace overlooking the canal D'Vijff Vlieghen- a famous hotel with an excellent restaurant named after Jan Janszoon Vijff Vlijghen De Keuken van 1870- a former soup kitchen providing inexpensive meals, popular with office workers, pensioners and students De Knijp- near the Amsterdam concert hall. Featuring Dutch cuisine, specialities include the tilapia filet, salad and steak. De Poort- this restaurant has been in working order for over 100 years and is famous for its steaks Marijuana coffee shops- Amsterdam is probably most famous for these, where unlike coffee shops in the UK; they are in reality Marijuana cafes, where smoking is legal. Dance clubs- these are immensely popular amongst younger visitors and examples of the largest are Jimmy Woo, Escape, Club 8, Paradiso and Bitterzoet Comedy clubs- especially Boom Chicago in Leidseplein Theater Bruine ("brown") cafés- these are the Amsterdam equivalent of English pubs and can be found all over the city with relaxed and mainly informal settings |
